Every year at the Brit awards something goes wrong.
But for the first time, possibly ever, nothing did!
It was a year for the underdog this year with most of the awards going to who you wouldn’t expect to win them.
On the night One Direction launched the video for their Comic Relief single ‘One Way or Another’ and performed it for the first time on TV, they walked away with a Brit for ‘Brits Global Success’.
Harry said: “We’re very honoured to be part of that and people recognise British music is great.”
The performance, as usual, was amazing when they turned the stage into a pinball style machine. We hope that’s a preview of what to expect on tour!
Viewers were also treated to performances of the incredibly catchy ‘Candy’ by Robbie Williams while Emeli Sande did a mash up of her greatest hits over the past year.
Taylor Swift did an amazing performance of ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and no doubt making Mr Styles incredibly jealous. She walked on stage in a sort of wedding dress, although I really hope when she does get married she doesn’t wear a dress like that.
She then did a quick change. Stripping off from the dress into shorts again no doubt trying to wind Harry up.
But tieing with One Direction for best performance of the night was the ever so gorgeous Justin Timberlake.
A very simple and his first performance of his new song ‘Mirrors’ wowed the crowds. Lets be honest, he could just stand on stage in a tracksuit and not move and it’d still be amazing.
Now back to the actual awards.
Emeli Sande was one of the big winners of the night taking home two awards. ‘British Female Solo artist’ and ‘Best Album’ for ‘Our Version of Events’ which has spent a whopping 53 weeks in the top 10 of the UK Album Chart.
Another big winner was Ben Howard. He won ‘British Male Solo Artist’ as well as ‘British Breakthrough Act’. Definitely one to look out for in the future.
One Direction were beaten out of the award for ‘British Group’ by Mumford and Sons. Yep we’re still confused as to how that happened too!
Adele won ‘British Single’ for ‘Skyfall’. Beating Olly Murs’s ‘Troublemaker, Jessie J’s ‘Domino and Robbie’s ‘Candy’ among others.
The award for ‘International Male Solo Artist’ went to Frank Ocean, while ‘International Female Solo’ went to Lana Del Rey.
‘International Group’ went to The Black Keys’ while ‘British Live Act’ went to Coldplay, who picked up their award without Chris Martin.
So it wasn’t a good night for some of our favs but the show was still amazing. There’ll be plenty of time for 1D, Olly, Jessie J and Rita Ora to pick up Brits in the future.
